Canada in Afghanistan

Why I am not against Canada participating in the war on the Taliban - the wanton destruction in March 2001 of this 3rd century Buddhist statue, part of the cultural heritage not only of Afghanistan but of all humanity.

My portrait painter, Eugenia Greinert, with Arthur Rubinstein, ca. 1955. The maestro is remembered, apart from his musical genius, for two quotes: "I have found that if you love life, life will love you back" and "Of course there is no formula for success except perhaps an unconditional acceptance of life and what it brings".

Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church, Smoky Lake

No matter how modest or humble, the Ukrainian churches of Alberta have a heavenly quality about them. I find something inspiring in this architecture, and get great pleasure whenever I come across one of these old buildings while driving over the prairies.
